Meditations in White
At the Herman Gamboa Gallery -  January 3 - 28, 2020
Pachamama

Climate change has become universally recognized as an existential threat. Our environment has been disrespected and damaged by industrialization, consumerism, and economic greed. Though scientists have warned Earth’s citizens for decades, the response to act has been sluggish. As we begin to see and feel the direct effects of global warming, the call to action becomes more urgent. We have reached a crossroads at which the failure to change our ways will lead to catastrophe.

Pachamama, the name of an Andean earth goddess, is a word that reminds us of a simpler time in human history when people worked in concert with nature. The artwork featured in this exhibit honors this deity of earth, fertility, and harvest, who is known by many names all over the planet and throughout history. Depictions of this goddess and her many earthly creations demonstrate her beauty and power. These images attempt to open a dialogue to repair the fissures of humanity’s lost innate connection to nature.
